Community Outreach and Public Service
The FLI serves as a clearinghouse for information about the Finger Lakes and the surrounding region. Collaboration with regional non-profit organizations, local, state, and federal government agencies, watershed management programs, and other academic institutions allow the FLI to serve as a clearinghouse for information about the region. These collaborations enable the development of outreach programs that foster communication and sustained connections among the numerous stakeholders within the Finger Lakes Region.
FLI Community Outreach Aims To…
- Disseminate “environmentally sound” knowledge to the general public in an effort to provide objective scientific assistance in resolving environmental health issues and improving environmental education.
- Raise awareness of the Finger Lakes Institute and its availability as a scientific resource.
- Provide a mechanism whereby communication between the community and scientists can occur, with the underlying objective of improving awareness of the Finger Lakes Region.
- Offer citizens and local groups resources to make their efforts more efficient, more effective, and more successful.
- Implement a diverse, multi-cultural approach to community outreach and awareness.
