A graduate of SUNY Cortland with a master's degree from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse University (1991), Sheila Myers, FLI Education Outreach Coordinator, is responsible for the Finger Lakes Institute’s presence in area schools, bringing a wealth of science education to the classroom.
Sheila's outreach and education skills have been used to assist several watershed groups in the Finger Lakes/Lake Ontario region. She has assisted government agencies in the development of both the Skaneateles Lake Watershed Management Plan and Oneida Lake Management Plan. She has served on the Central New York Project Watershed Board, the Onondaga Lake Partnership’s Education Advisory Committee, and the Skaneateles Lake Association Board. She is currently an adjunct professor at the Finger Lakes Community College teaching a course in terrestrial and aquatic ecology.
Myers is currently a member of the Science Teachers Association of New York State, and a Section Area Representative for the Central Western Section for Environmental Sciences. She works with a number of teachers in the Finger Lakes region to develop curriculum material for the Finger Lakes Institute’s websites and is managing the coordination of the professional development programs for the EPA-award winning Science on Seneca as well as a regional tributary monitoring program.
