Printable Article

Nathan Burtch, a GIS specialist at HWS's Finger Lakes Institute, was featured in a story about GIS applications in the Friday, Nov. 23 issue of The Citizen, published in Auburn, N.Y.

Burtch, who joined the FLI staff in 2006, holds a bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University with dual majors in geography and comparative religion and a minor in applied statistics; and a master's in urban and regional planning from State University at Buffalo, specializing in GIS Technologies and Environmental Planning.

He assists the FLI staff and others with ascertaining the impacts of development on water quality, watershed planning, land use change over time and other environmentally centered research topics. He also assists students and faculty with GIS technologies pertaining to their own research. His position is funded by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
