Emily Runnells '08 and Emily Golson '08 will share their experiences with the National Audubon Society's Seabird Restoration Program beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18 in the Finger Lakes Institute Classroom. They and interns from previous years as well as Stephen Kress, P'07, P'10, founder and director of the Seabird Restoration Program, will review what they learned and why "Project Puffin" is important. Coastal development in North America is raising more concerns recently as some 70 percent of the United States population now lives within 100 miles of a coastline. Each summer the National Audubon Society Seabird Restoration Program hosts internships for college students to assist in the restoration of seabird population in the Gulf of Maine. This internship is unlike most: you're on an island way out in the ocean, camping with colonies of seabirds. A summer 2008 internship is available for HWS students; anyone with an interest in ongoing conservation efforts will want to attend. Registration is requested by calling ext. 4382 or e-mailing FLI.
