Two experts on geothermal energy will speak at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 11 at the Finger Lakes Institute Classroom, 601 S. Main St. Lisa Turturro and Paul Tornatore will address "Geothermal Energy -- Using Lessons from the Past to Plan for the Future." The issue of sustainability and the emergence of "green" thinking have brought a renewed focus on how the public can serve as stewards of the world's natural resources. Within the energy sector, geothermal energy is often viewed as a way to substantially achieve green goals -- but after system installation, geothermal users are often disappointed with the results. Turturro, an environmental consultant; and Tornatore, an engineer and senior consultant, work in the Rochester office of Haley and Aldrich, a firm that addresses environmental, engineering and management issues for clients across the United States and internationally. Headquartered in Boston, the firm has 21 offices in this country and nearly 500 professional and support staff. The speakers will explore how the use of geothermal energy can support overall campus sustainability programs; they will also discuss what the firm has learned about how to design geothermal applications to meet expectations. Their talk is free and open to the public; registration is requested by calling (315) 781-4382 or e-mailing e-mailing fli@hws.edu.
