Science on Seneca, an educational outreach program of the Finger Lakes Institute, will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 5, beginning in the FLI Classroom. Barb Halfman coordinates the one-day program, which enables local science teachers to use Seneca Lake as an outdoor classroom. After a brief introduction to program logistics, participants will board The William Scandling research vessel and head out onto Seneca Lake, to learn how to use the research equipment that's aboard. After lunch, participants will spend an hour in an overview of Finger Lakes-related environmental and water quality topics, as well as additional educational resources. Check out the training at ScienceOnSeneca Teachers who complete the training are then certified to take their classes on a field trip on The William Scandling for $15 per trip; the training is free to all teachers. Registration required by e-mailing Barb Halfman. Visit the SOS website.
